Tinnitus and stress
Stress does not explain every case of tinnitus, but distress and attention can influence how intrusive tinnitus feels.
Attention matters
When tinnitus is interpreted as threatening, attention can repeatedly return to it. That can make the sound feel more central even when its acoustic characteristics have not changed.
Behavioral support
CBT and counseling focus on changing reactions, coping patterns and distress. They are not based on pretending the sound is imaginary.
Get help when needed
If tinnitus is contributing to significant anxiety, low mood or inability to function, seek professional support.
